Social Activists: Advantages of having a
website and why you should have one

One thing that we all want to do is be heard. We want to reach a sympathetic ear, to find commonality and to bring about change. If you have found this page then obviously you are already on th Internet and are likely aware of some of the advantages it has. What you may not be aware of is why you should have a website and just how easy it is to have an informative, useful and professional looking site.

Let's examine some of the advantages to having a website.

Provide current information:
Web surfers want up-to-the-minute information. A website affords you the ability to change content on a timely and relatively inexpensive basis. With web design and hosting being so consumer friendly now it only takes a few minutes to add new content or update what is already there.

Reach a larger market:
Every day more and more people are utilizing the Internet to help them find information, products, services and to connect with other people. Having a website exposes you and your story to this rapidly growing market.
Hopefully you have written a letter to the newspaper or your congressman. Maybe you have stood around the breakroom talking about the injustices going on in the courts. These are good things to do and should be done. Local activism is important as well as national activism. Having a website will allow you to reach those in your local community who may have missed editorial letters as well as people nationally or statewide that are looking to connect.

Offer more information:
Researching information and services on the web is a common technique used by potential activist. A website affords you the ability to list more information and explain your case in great detail. Providing additional information about your case and what you want to accomplish will help to bring in more activist.

Compete on an even playing field:
Whether you have a site representing a large group of people covering many aspects of your activism or just one page about your experience, the Internet offers you the ability to compete on an even playing field. A professionally designed web template will make you a top contender for your share of this ever increasing popularity of the Internet.
